Water Treatment Automation Overview

Modern water and wastewater treatment plants are highly automated, pumps, valves, aerators, chemical dosing systems, and filtration processes are all controlled and monitored by PLC and SCADA systems. Operators supervise the entire plant from a central control room SCADA workstation, while remote pumping stations have local HMI panels for on-site monitoring and control.

Water treatment SCADA systems in India commonly use Ignition (Inductive Automation), Wonderware (AVEVA InTouch), Siemens WinCC, and Yokogawa FAST/TOOLS. These connect via OPC UA, Modbus TCP, or PROFINET to PLCs controlling water treatment processes, coagulation, flocculation, filtration, chlorination, and pumping. SCADA provides real-time monitoring, alarm management, and regulatory compliance reporting.
