What Does IP Rating Mean?

IP stands for Ingress Protection, defined by IEC standard 60529. An IP rating has two digits: the first indicates protection against solid particles (dust), the second against liquids (water).

IP (Ingress Protection) rating is an IEC 60529 standard that classifies the degree of protection an enclosure provides against solid particles (first digit, 0 a 6) and liquids (second digit, 0 a 9K).
